Common questions about the Rodan + Fields

Pore Cleansing MD System

Where on my face can I use the Pore Cleansing MD System?

You can use the Pore Cleansing Tip in the T-zone ONLY (forehead, nose and chin), always starting with the lowest suction level. This area is often oilier than the rest of the face and prone to clogged pores, blackheads and breakouts. You can use the blackhead removal tip wherevera blackhead pops up. The chest, shoulders and back are also prone to clogged pores and blackheads so you can use both tips in these areas as well.

Can I use the Pore Cleansing MD Tool on acne pimples?

No, you should use the Pore Cleansing MD Tool on clogged pores and blackheads only. We do not recommend using over acne pimples or cystic acne to avoid increased inflammation and potential for scarring. You should use over-the-counter acne medications such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid and Sulfur to treat mild-to-moderate acne. We recommend theUnblemishRegimen for adult acne and visible signs ofagingorSpotlessRegimen for teen and young adult acne.

My skin is sensitive, but I am concerned with clogged pores and blackheads. Can I use the PoreCleansing MD System?

The Pore Cleansing MD Tool is not recommended for use on sensitive skin. Sensitive skin, by definition, has a compromised barrier; therefore, we do not advise that you apply suction or pressure to areas of sensitivity to avoid skin damage.

Pore Cleansing MD System is also NOT for skin that is thin, fragile, or prone to redness, excess dryness or bruising. And do not use on cystic acne or dilated capillaries. As always, if you have ANY reservations or medical questions about using this product, be sure to ask your doctor first.

Can I use the Pore Cleansing MD System with other products?

We always recommend following the Pore Cleansing MD System with your nighttime Regimen routine beginning with Step 1. You can also use the Pore Cleansing MD Tool with the AMP MD Derma-Roller and our Face Masks, but don’t use them on the same night.

I am not seeing anything in the tip after I use the Pore Cleansing MD System. Why?

If you don’t observe excess oil or visibly enlarged, clogged pores, you may be the amongst the fortunate minority who have great pores. This tool may not be for you. This is true for those who have dry skin with lower oil production. Remember, oil production can also fluctuate due to stress, hormonal changes, weather conditions and lifestyle

If you indeed feel you do have excess oil or clogged pores:
1. Ensure that the tip is properly inserted into the tool and that there is sufficient suction.
2. Be sure to use enough Pore Prep Solution on skin to remove dead skin cells blocking pores and to break down the clogs in the pores for easier extraction.
3. Since pores are deep and sebum can be waxy and sticky, not all contents may be removed during the first use
4. Soften hardened oil and build-up for easier removal by using system after a hot shower or application of a warm, damp washcloth over face for 1 minute.
5. Remember, it is important not to overwork skin. Keep using the tool on a weekly basis as instructed for best results.

How often should I use the Pore Cleansing MD System?

We recommend using the Pore Cleansing MD System once weekly at night using the Pore Cleansing Tip as directed. You can use the Blackhead Removal Tip as needed, whenever a stubborn blackhead pops up.

Can I use the Pore Cleansing MD System in the morning?

We recommend you use the Pore Cleansing MD System in the evening to allow any residual redness or minor bruising to dissipate by the morning. In the morning, always use sunscreen because removing excess dead skin cells may increase photo-sensitivity. Also, sun exposure can worsen the appearance of pores.

Who should use the Pore Cleansing MD System?

If your pores are clogged, enlarged or stretched due to buildup or if you have stubborn blackheads, we have your answer. Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields developed the Pore Cleansing MD System for most everyone concerned with their pores, specifically this System is designed for:
Oily or combination skin types
Skin experiencing excess oil production due to hormonal changes/stressors
Skin experiencing slowdown of skin cell renewal and buildup of dead skin cells

Do not use if you have thin, fragile, sensitive skin or skin that is prone to broken capillaries or bruising. Also avoid use on acne lesions such as whiteheads or inflamed pimples.

The Doctors created this System as an alternative to painful extractions with metal dermatological tools, topical products that don’t clean deep enough and strips that only touch the surface. They also know that squeezing and pressing on clogged pores and blackheads with fingers often pushes contents deeper into the pore leading to inflammation, acne pimples and/or scarring.
With the Pore Cleansing MD System, you can experience professional-level deep pore cleansing to remove clogged pores and stubborn blackheads in the comfort of your own home. The perfect combination of the exfoliation combined with precise suction and pressure removes excess oil, dead skin cells, debris and blackheads instantly with minimal discomfort or redness.

What is the recommended age range for using the Pore Cleansing MD System?

Our products are formulated to be safe and effective and are designed for use by adults. However, we also recognize that teens may benefit from the instant and over time benefits of our Pore Cleansing MD System. Please keep in mind that with all skincare products intended for adults, a teenager should bring the system information to their parents or guardian for review.

People of all ages should use common sense when deciding to use this product and avoid using on skin that is frail, thin, delicate, sensitive or prone to bruising. You should also avoid using on acne pimples, whiteheads and dilated capillaries. For more guidelines and warnings, please review the complete product brochure.

Also keep in mind that with aging the skin becomes thinner, more fragile, prone to dilated capillaries and bruising. If this describes your skin, do not use the Pore Cleansing MD System. If you have any other skin health concerns then contact your doctor before using.

Can you share the Pore Cleansing MD Tool with someone else?

The Pore Cleansing MD Tool is designed to be shared with friends and family because of its hygienic, single-use disposable tips. Always make sure to use a new, clean tip for each person. This helps prevent bacteria from spreading.
